Travel Guide
Kırgızistan
Bishkek, Karakol, Issyk-Kul and Ala-Kul at 3800 m. Easy border, cheap food, dust and August heat warning.
In short
I entered Kyrgyzstan from Kazakhstan by a ≈ $6 bus; it was one of the easiest borders I have crossed. The passport was stamped, another bus took me to Bishkek on the other side. Kyrgyzstan was my 25th country.
Bishkek is wide and tree-lined, one of the greenest capitals in the world; but there is roadwork, dust and heavy traffic. Food and transport are cheap: meat kebab ≈ $2.60 at the market, bus ≈ $0.23, unlimited internet ≈ $5.70. In August it can reach 41°C.
I took a 6-hour minibus to quiet Karakol; the real goal was Ala-Kul at 3800 m. The hike was tiring, cold and expensive — honestly: not worth it. Turkish citizens get 90 days visa-free.

Cheap except for Ala-Kul
Transport, food and internet are very affordable. What raises the cost is Ala-Kul: camp, gear, return. Dust, smoke and the mountains.
Change money at the terminal, get the SIM in the city and skip August.
